The "F. Vittadini" Higher Institute of Music Studies is working hard to promote music culture in Pavia and the surrounding area through educational activities and concerts.

It is the only organisation in the area that belongs to AFAM - Alta Formazione Artistica e Musicale (Higher Education in Art and Music) launched by MIUR, equivalent to university standard.

The other important core feature of the Institute is the Foundation Training Courses for students who wish to pursue a vocational training, but are not necessarily aiming for a professional music career.

The Institute set up 13 instrument schools and runs 20 training courses with a total of 29 and 32 teachers, respectively. About 650 students are enrolled.

The financial burden of supporting an organisation like this is quite considerable and the Institute is striving to improve its services without lowering standards.

It is important that citizens see their Music Institute as an important centre for spreading culture in their area.
